Liberal Arts-Communication Studies A.A.
Raritan Valley Community College
Raritan Valley Community College offers a variety of different concentrations in their Liberal Arts program. One degree program option they offer is the Communication Studies Liberal Arts program. This program is for students seeking to pursue a four-year degree in speech, communication, media production, or journalism. The interdisciplinary curriculum includes courses in speech, communication theory, mass media, as well as electives in specialized fields such as interpersonal and intercultural communications, journalism, public relations, film studies, and video production.
Students learn the communicative power of images and the impact of mass media on society. Students also learn to recognize where and how communication breaks down and how to apply basic models of verbal and nonverbal communication. Students are encouraged to participate in an internship, co-op, or service learning project in a communication field. Graduates of the program have strong and convincing writing skills and the ability to organize and deliver effective oral presentations.
Although this degree is offered online, a few of the required courses may be only offered onsite at the college. However, RVCC assures that at least 85 percent of the courses are offered online. To prepare students for studying online, RVCC offers special orientation programs that show students how to make the most of their online education.
