Health Information Technology A.A.S.
Raritan Valley Community College offers an Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology (HIT) for professionals who wish to pursue a career in health information management. Health Information Technicians are employed in hospitals, long-term care facilities such as nursing homes, large outpatient and ambulatory care centers, as well as physician offices, health insurance companies and local, state and federal health agencies.
In the 63-credit Health Information Technology program, students learn basic health care information, specific medical coding procedures and health data management. The program also offers students experience in varied health care settings.
Graduates of the HIT program are able to collect, analyze, process and evaluate health data and control the use and release of health information. Graduates are also able to supervise staff and function as an integral part of the health information management team. Furthermore, successful completion of all of the Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology degree requirements enables students to sit for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credentialing examination through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
