Raritan Valley Community College
Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) offers an online Associate of Arts in English designed for students interested in focusing on literature and writing in a multidisciplinary setting. A degree in English is for those who love to read, enjoy writing, appreciate language and want to pursue a career that requires good speaking and writing skills. The curriculum includes courses in English language, literature, and composition, writing-intensive courses, genre courses, and your traditional general education courses. Although this degree is offered online, a few of the required courses may be only offered onsite at the college. However, RVCC assures that at least 85 percent of the courses are offered online.
During the program students will write research papers that explore particular works and authors and they will develop unique and individual points of view about literature and authors. Students will also learn to appreciate the interrelatedness of literatures, literary theory, language and composition. The 61-65 credit program produces professionals who are able to demonstrate proficiency in analytical, critical and creative writing. Graduates of the program are able to employ technological tools and write clearly, grammatically, and fluently. The program also enables students to begin their major in English online with RVCC and to transfer to a four-year institution to continue their academic advancement on the baccalaureate level. In fact, it is strongly encouraged that students pursue a bachelor’s degree.
