Program Overview

Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) offers an Associate of Applied Science in Accounting as a career program primarily designed to prepare students to secure entry-level positions directly upon completion. Graduates are hired as bookkeepers, payroll accountants, accounts receivable specialists and accounts payable specialists. Although this degree is offered online, a few of the required courses may be only offered onsite at the college. However, RVCC assures that at least 85 percent of the courses are offered online. The curriculum includes courses covering topics such as business mathematics, managerial accounting, tax accounting, auditing, and accounting using microcomputers.

Graduates of the program are able to use financial statements to measure the financial performance of a business, apply accounting knowledge to make business decisions, and record business transactions resulting in financial statements. Some students enroll in the program with the intent of eventually pursuing a four-year degree. For those students who may wish to pursue a four-year degree, RVCC recommends students to consider enrolling in one of the online business transfer programs versus this career program.
