Rappahannock Community College offers a Certificate in Administrative Support for students seeking to train in the necessary skills and knowledge necessary for full-time employment in an office-related environment. The program will give students the basic educational requirements needed in writing, computers, administration, and other topics helpful for performing their tasks adequately. This program is intended to train students to become administrative assistants, clerical assistants, data entry technicians, receptionists, data entry keying, office clerk, and general word processing. Students should understand that certification is a benefit to the purpose of seeking employment in a business environment; however, an associate degree on top of certification is typically preferential to a high school diploma.
The Certification in Administrative Support is a one-year program combining instructions in many of the subject areas required for competence in administrative support for businesses, government, or other industries or organizations. The program includes college composition for development of writing skills necessary for the business environment, applied business mathematics, word processing for development of typing skills, office administration principles and advanced office administration, an introduction to computer applications and concepts, office accounting to develop understanding of billing and other financially related tasks, presentation software/power point, spreadsheet software/excel, and communications management to develop the ability to communicate appropriately in the business environment.
