Rappahannock Community College offers a Certificate in Accounting for students seeking to train in the necessary skills and knowledge for careers in accounting and accounting related fields and environments. The program is intended to give students the basic and advanced educational requirements needed in writing, accounting, computers, mathematics, and accounting related subjects necessary to performing accounting tasks to the expectations of professionalism and quality required for people in the field.
Students completing this program will have opportunities for employment as an accounts receivable clerk, accounts payable clerk, bookkeeper, cash receipts clerk, cash payments clerk, bill and account collector, accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing clerk, or a payroll and timekeeping clerk. Students should understand that certification is a benefit to the purpose of seeking employment in a business environment; however, an associate degree on top of certification is typically preferential to a high school diploma.
The Accounting Certificate from Rappahannock is a one-year program focusing on many of the subject areas required for competence in accounting and accounting related fields in businesses, government, or other industries or organizations. The program includes college composition for development of writing skills necessary for the business environment, an introduction to elementary statistics, the principles of accounting and advanced principles of accounting, payroll accounting, an introduction to computer applications and concepts, small business taxes, managerial accounting, computerized accounting, spreadsheet software/excel, among other classes which will help prepare students for a position in the field of accounting.

Founded in 1970, Rappahannock Community College is a public, 2-year community college with campuses in Glenns, Virginia and Warsaw, Virginia.
