Master of Science in Teacher Leadership
Quinnipiac University offers a Master of Science degree in Teacher Leadership for educators and students who believe in leading by example and who motivate and guide others by showing passion about making a difference. Students will learn how to develop their existing expertise with skills to help guide and lead others, including student motivation, parental involvement, leadership style, and working with confidence in the classroom and the community. Educators and students will learn to work with professionalism and work with the beliefs and behaviors that contribute to student learning and promoting better educational institutions and growth.
Students will focus on developing knowledge of specialized services and forms of interactive media through a curriculum that emphasizes planning and technical knowledge of interactive media. Those classes include teacher leadership to transform school culture, leading the institutional program to improve student learning, research-based literacy practices, leading school improvement, diversity in the classroom, cycles of inquiry within the literacy classroom, coaching teachers of literacy, action research in literacy leadership, cycles of inquiry within the mathematics classroom, and others.
By completing the degree, students will have demonstrated the qualities of a teaching leader, but not the certification necessary for a career in teaching. These qualifications include the ability to engage students in learning within and across the disciplines and help students understand how the subjects they study can be used to explore important issues in their lives and the world around them, to collaborate with colleagues to improve schools and to advance knowledge and practice in their field, to use a variety of approaches to help students build knowledge and strengthen understanding, to identify skills gaps and preconceptions students may bring to the subject, to use diverse instructional strategies to teach for understanding, to collaborate with others to improve student learning, and to collaborate with other professionals on instructional policy, curriculum development, and staff development.
