Prince William Sound College was founded in 1978 by Dr. John Devens with the help of a $50,000 endowment. PWSC is a two-year, public, not-for-profit, one-of-a-kind institution and a community campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), located in Valdez, Alaska. The main campus and its extension sites in Cordova and Copper Basin are set amidst some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery and rich cultural history. PWSC’s mission “applies innovative and sustainable practices in providing accessibility, student success, effective teaching, learning and community engagement.”
Students at PWSC can enroll in bachelor’s, associate’s, certificate or occupational endorsement programs. In addition, PWSC offers a variety of online classes through its distance learning program. Several associate's degrees and certificates can be earned completely online.
