Program Overview

Portland State University offers a hybrid Training and Development Certificate of Completion that is well suited for individuals who wish to initiate change within their careers and in the workplace. Participating students will gain in-depth knowledge on training, development, methods, management, leadership, and more. Graduates who earn this certificate have the potential to secure rewarding careers as trainers, teachers, human resources staff, training consultants, workplace learning and performance professionals, or in various other related careers.

The Training and Development Certificate of Completion Program consists of required core courses, specialized courses, and culminating courses. Core courses include Principles of Training and Development and Course Design & Evaluation. Students then may choose from four certificates when completing specialized courses. Specialized courses may be taken in Training, Online Training, Management of Training, or Intercultural Training. Culminating courses that students must complete include Contemporary Issues in Training and Development and a Culminating Project. The courses for this program are expertly crafted to ensure that graduates will be knowledgeable, competent, and professional while using training and leadership skills within their careers.

This partially-online learning environment provides flexibility for enrolled students who are employed or have other obligations. Students must be highly disciplined to complete a large amount of coursework. Time management, a reliable internet connection, and word processing skills are very important for students who enroll.

    Portland State University is a public state university located in Portland, Oregon. Established in 1946, PSU began as the Vanport Extension Center as a way to meet the needs of higher education for those returning from World War II. Over the years, with its constantly expanding degree programs, PSU is the largest and fastest growing school in the Oregon University System.
