Graduates typically work as staff in public libraries or as teachers in the school system.
The Children’s and Young Adult Literature Graduate Certificate Program consists of 16 total credit hours. Courses within the curriculum include Young Adult Literature, Multicultural Literature, Global Literature, Contemporary Children’s and Young Adult Literature, and a Final Practicum/Project. Elective courses must also be completed in order to graduate. These courses are designed for students to acquire unique knowledge that will assist them while working with children and young adults in the educational system. The courses are expertly crafted to ensure that graduates will be knowledgeable, competent, and professional while working literature for this age group.
All courses are available online. This online learning environment provides flexibility for enrolled students who are employed or have other obligations. Students must be highly disciplined to complete a large amount of coursework. Time management, a reliable internet connection, and word processing skills are important for students who enroll. In order to be considered for this program, students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Students must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
