Pennsylvania College of Art and Design was founded in 1982 as the Pennsylvania School of the Arts. The school was created due to the efforts of the faculty and volunteers from the recently closed York Academy of Arts. In 2003, the name was changed to the current name of Pennsylvania College of Art and Design. The school's mission is "to provide an immersive experience in an intimate environment where the curriculum successfully prepares students for a life in art."
