Program Details

Through Penn Foster, students are able to earn a Medical Information Management Certificate online. In the course Confidentiality of Health Information, students learn the legal rules and ethics of health information. An emphasis is placed on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Also provided is a background on the principles of legal liability and operation of the legal system. The second course offered is Electronic Medical Records. The students receive an overview on successfully managing electronic medical records (EMRs) in various health care settings. Students are taught concepts pertaining to procedures, terminology, and regulations of EMRs. This course provides hands-on experience using electronic medical record software.

Earning a certificate in Medical Information Management allows students to professionally manage health care records and demonstrate effective communications skills. This Penn Foster program is designed for students looking to increase their knowledge of the health care system or refresh and enhance office performance.
