The Fashion Merchandising - AS Degree* online degree trains students on how to become a merchandiser, sales manager, or for work in retail. The course Information Literacy teaches students about using the Internet and basic search engines. Students can expect to learn about topics in marketing, development, production of materials, and retailing.

Essential skills needed when working in fashion include the understanding of color and how to manipulate color. Students learn color theory and the color wheel, as well as the history of fashion and how it has changed. Other important skills to know when working in a business setting are basic accounting and marketing. It is important when working with clients that the professional understands pricing and distribution to ensure fairness and profitability. More specialized courses include Retail Management and Product Development. During theses courses, students learn how to develop pricing, strategies of promotion, and the process of product development.

Penn Foster College’s Fashion Merchandising - AS Degree* allows students to use their creativity while also earning a useful degree from home. In order for students to receive credit for coursework completed before entering Penn Foster College, students must have official transcripts to Penn Foster College for review. The minimum grade accepted for transfer credit is a "C."
