Parkland College was founded in 1966 and serves Ford County as well as parts of Coles, Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Iroquois, Livingston, Moultrie, McLean, and Vermilion Counties. Originally named Illinois Junior College, in 1967 the school was renamed Parkland College. Since its establishment classes were held in temporary classrooms located in downtown Champaign, Illinois. In 1973, the official campus opened and all classes were moved to the now 255 acre campus.
Parkland College is a two-year, public, not-for-profit institution of higher learning that awards associate's degrees and certificates. Parkland College also offers online classes to help accommodate the busy schedules of its students.
