Program Details

The College of Arts & Letters at ODU brings you this PhD in English entirely online.  The program is designed for professionals who work both in and out of the classroom.  Curriculum encompasses research examining unique texts and how their creation is affected by specific influences, such as culture, technology, and audience.  There are four emphases available:

  • Literary & Cultural Studies
  • Writing, Rhetoric & Discourse
  • Technology & Media Studies
  • Self-designed Studies

Requirements

Online students are required to attend two Summer Doctoral Institutes at the ODU campus.

  • Master’s degree in English or in an appropriate field
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • GRE scores
  • Professional goals
  • Three letters of reference
  • Writing sample
  • Resume or curriculum vitae
