Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Ministry
Ohio Christian University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Ministry. This program is designed for adult students who feel a calling toward ministry. Ohio Christian University boasts over 50 years of experience in teaching many of today’s foremost Christian leaders. This program will impart on students the knowledge of how to successfully lead a church, manage a ministry within in a church, or even head a non-profit organization. Graduates of the Leadership and Ministry Major at OCU will be skilled in incorporating and applying Christian principles in their day lives, problem solving and decision making and capably communicating the gospel to a variety of audiences in multiple contexts. Graduates will also be able to effectively meet the pastoral needs of their congregation by applying practical ministry skills (such as performing rituals, administering sacraments, etc.).
The B.A. in Leadership and Ministry requires 51 program core credit hours and 17 required courses. This is part of the 124 total credit hours that OCU requires its Adult Bachelor Program students to complete for graduation. Included in these required courses are Church Administrations, Foundations of Teaching and Preaching, Evangelism and Discipleship II, Ministry Capstone, Theology of Missions, Transformed Worldview, Methods in Counseling, and Theology. Ohio Christian University also requires students of the program to have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA to graduate from the program.
For enrollment in the B.A. in Leadership and Ministry students must have completed at least 50 semester credit hours from an accredited institution of higher learning with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher. Credit hours may also be earned through OCU’s Prior Learning Assessment program which grants credit hours for work experiences, self-study, seminars, training programs, workshops or non-credit classes. OCU evaluates and grants up to 24 credit hours for the level of the student’s learning from these sources. As part of the PLA program, students of the B.A. in Leadership and Ministry can apply for credit for past work in the pastoral field. This would include five or more years in a paid full time pastoral role with a local church, or ten or more years in staff positions and currently serving in a paid pastoral position. Completion of an Associate's degree in Business Management or Leadership would be beneficial to future students of the bachelor program.
