Program Details

Are you a nurse with an interest in working within the legal system as well?  The online MSN program in Forensic Nursing prepares students to serve as leaders in forensic nursing, helping patients who are victims, suspects, and/or perpetrators of trauma, violence, or maltreatment.

Teaching the knowledge and principles foundational to nursing and forensic science, courses emphasize interprofessional education related to the diverse roles and responsibilities of these forensic nurses as independent practitioners.  The curriculum prepares students to conduct medical-forensic exams, perform specialized exam techniques, collect evidence, and testify in court.  In addition to learning how to care for patients of intentional and unintentional trauma along with all forms of violence and maltreatment, you will learn to collaborate with others on the forensic team.  You can practice globally and/or in various specific areas of forensic nursing, including:

  • Injury and Violence Prevention
  • Trauma (assault, attempted suicide, stabbings, GSW, MVA)
  • Intimate Partner Violence
  • Human Trafficking
  • Child or Elder Maltreatment
