M.A. in Gerontology
Nova Southeastern University, primarily located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers a Master of Arts in Gerontology.
The advanced degree develops the perspective that human beings require meaning and purpose in order to experience life with a sense of well-being as they grow older. In the 36-credit-hour program, students will learn the core required master's courses, in addition to the emphasized courses from one of the four concentrations of the degree. Students can choose between, Public Health, Gerontology and the Family, Emergency Preparedness or Professional Geriatric Care Management as an area of expertise before completing the curriculum.
Each course will build upon other courses and provide students the needed insight as to the means of understanding psychological theories and social policies. Students will acquire leadership skills based on critical analyses of policies and programs that affect older adults and the institutions that serve them. Students will be able to use the advanced education to identify and formulate effective means of creating change in the policies and procedures practices. The master’s program will culminate with a capstone project designed to demonstrate a student’s complete comprehension of the programs primary objectives.
Graduates will be able to contribute the learned fundamentals when obtaining advanced positions of leadership in the field of aging. Traditional professional fields graduates can expect to do well in are expanding to the Health Care, Human Services, and Social Services Field.
