Founded in 1951, Northwestern Michigan College is a fully accredited, publicly funded community college that serves people, organizations and businesses, offering 96 transfer, career degree and certificate programs. It serves more than 50,000 learners annually throughout the Grand Traverse region and beyond.

NMC offers associate degrees and professional certificates, as well as bachelor's degrees through the Great Lakes Maritime Academy and Great Lakes Water Studies Institute. Seven partner universities grant baccalaureate, graduate and doctoral degrees through the University Center. Through the Online Learning program, students can earn certain associate's degrees and certificates completely online.
