Northeast Iowa Community College
Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) offers a completely online Associate of Applied Science Business Specialist degree. The goal behind this degree is to teach students the basic skills and knowledge needed in a variety of business positions. This program focuses on marketing, management, accounting and business law.
Through completion of this program, students should be qualified and prepared to seek employment opportunities in entry-level management jobs. Graduates from this program have taken positions as department mangers, inventory specialists, supervisors, and MRP controllers.
Due to the online environment of this program students should have access to the Internet and understand basic computer skills such as saving, uploading and downloading documents, and sending e-mails. NICC uses a program called Xpress for online courses. This program allows interaction between classmates by using discussion boards, videos and chat rooms to assist in the learning process. NICC has a free tutorial course that teaches students exactly how to use Xpress to better prepare them for using this system on their own. An online quiz is available for students interested in a distance learning program that helps them determine if an online program is the right decision. Accepted students should be self-motivated to complete assignments and to keep up with reading assignments.
Eligible students should submit a copy of high school and college transcripts, ACT scores and proof of completion of the ACCUPLACER test. Students are able to apply for entry into the business specialist programs during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. NICC requires students to complete 68 credit hours to graduate.
