Program Details

Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Agriculture Business. This degree is designed for students interested in developing effective skills in communication, human relations, management, and sales. Students may be able to participate in internships during the program to allow them to apply their knowledge learned in the classroom into a real-world situation.

NICC allows students to select a concentration to tailor their degree toward their interests. Concentrations include agriculture environmental science, agriculture office technician, agriculture finance, animal science, crop advisor, dairy and precision agriculture, and agronomy custom application. The program requires completion of 70 credit hours to graduate. Students can enroll in a variety of courses such as soil fertility, introduction to agriculture markets, agriculture finance, integrated crop management, and more.

This program is a part of the distance learning community at NICC, which gives students the ability to earn a degree from home. Individuals in this program should be able to access course materials, view grades and interact with classmates from the online program Xpress. Online programs typically require more reading assignments than traditional programs, and use discussion boards, videos and other web resources to assist in learning the material.

Reliable Internet access and knowledge of basic computer operations are required for distance learning courses. Students who have not used the Xpress system in other courses are encouraged to enroll in the free tutorial course, which shows the tools and functions used in NICC’s online programs. Interested students who are unsure if an online program is right for them can take the quick online program assessment found on NICC’s webpage. Further questions about the program or distance learning can be directed at the agriculture department.
