Program Overview

Interested in improving or learning how to properly recognize and analyze crop production problems? The Agriculture Business Crop Advisor certificate program teaches students these skills and can be beneficial for career advancement. The curriculum was developed around the requirements of the International Certified Crop Advisor program. Through completion of this program students should be competent and ready to seek employment in crop consulting and precision agriculture positions.

This program is offered completely online, which provides students with flexibility of scheduling courses around their personal and educational agendas. Northeast Iowa Community College uses the Xpress educational program in the distance learning programs. This computer application allows students to use discussion boards, chat rooms and videos to discuss course material and learn new skills necessary in the field. The college offers a free tutorial of the Xpress system to help students understand the tools and functions they will need to use in the program. Students are encouraged to have reliable and consistent access to the Internet and possess knowledge of basic computer functions. Online courses are typically reading intensive and students should be able to read at a college level and stay up to date with required readings.

This certificate program offers three student organizations that individuals can become a part of if they chose. Clubs include: the Post Secondary Agriculture Students, Dairy Science Club, and the Rodeo Club. Northeast Iowa Community College requires successful completion of 21 credit hours. Courses include principles of agronomy, integrated crop management, fundamentals of soil science and more.

    School Overview

    Northeast Iowa Community College was founded in 1966 by the State Board of Education as the Area One Vocational -Technical School. In 1979, the Area One Vocational -Technical School changed its name to Northeast Iowa Technical Institute then to Northeast Iowa Community College in 1988. Northeast Iowa Community College is a two-year, public, not-for-profit institution of higher learning with the mission to “provide accessible, affordable, quality education and training to meet the needs of our communities.”

    Northeast Iowa Community College supports diploma programs, certificate programs and associate's degree programs, as well as a number of online classes through the distance learning program. Several associate's degrees can be earned completely online.
