The NCU Trauma and Disaster Relief specialization prepares students to understand the needs of individuals who have witnessed natural disasters, accidents, abuse, physical injury, bullying, etc., and who are grappling with how to cope or to effectively integrate memories or feelings related to that experience. You will be provided instruction both in theories related to first responders, and ways to provide ongoing support and care for those impacted by trauma.
The specialization considers the impact of one-time, generational, and long-term or repeated traumas.
