The Associate of Applied Science in Foundations of Teacher Education is an online degree from Northcentral Technical College for those interested in becoming Paraeducators, or Instructional Assistants. With this degree you will be able to work under the supervision of a licensed teacher, performing such duties as assisting children with math, science, reading, and writing assignments; handling classroom management; and performing clerical and other tasks related to instruction. In addition, you may also be involved with monitoring student activities, tutoring, correcting papers, working with children individually or in small groups, classroom displays, supervising classroom and school events, and a wide variety of other activities that help the teacher provide the best instruction possible to the students. Coursework teaches proactive classroom management techniques and instructional support strategies for different areas of study.
