Program Details

The online Graduate Certificate in Mathematics Teaching & Learning program focuses on developing knowledge and instructional approaches in teaching mathematics.  The program serves practicing teachers in middle school through college, as well as those preparing for teaching careers that want to expand their expertise in this field.  Students learn how to apply research-based understandings of students’ thinking, pedagogical approaches, and broader educational issues such as discourse and equity to inform practices of teaching content such as geometry, algebra, and statistics.  Courses include:

  • Interactions in the Mathematics Classroom
  • Teaching and Learning of Algebraic Thinking
  • Teaching and Learning of Geometric Thinking

Students can complete the program in three to four semesters. Credits can be applied towards a master’s degree program at NC State University.
