Program Overview

The Certificate in Project Management at New Jersey Institute of Technology is ideal for those looking to expand their knowledge and skills in project management as it relates to engineering management.  All courses are offered online or on NJIT's campus in Newark, New Jersey. Program curriculum is centered around learning the fundamentals of project implementations, and how to estimate, budget and control capital investments.

Program courses include, Project Control, Cost Estimating for Capital Projects, Project Management, Construction Management, Legal Aspects in Environmental Engineering, Legal Aspects in Construction Management, Legal, Ethical and Intellectual Property Issues for Engineering Managers.

The Project Control course examines methodology of project implementation. The Cost Estimating for Capital Projects looks at the external and internal influence on business practices, demand analysis, behavior of cost, prices and profits, business cycles, capital expenditure planning as well as other concepts and theories related to implementing capital projects. The Project Management course covers topics in contractor organization and management, financial planning, and legal aspects of construction. The Legal Aspects in Environmental Engineering course discusses the control and regulation of water, air and gas pollution by local, national and international law. The Legal Aspects in Construction course introduces contracts, sub-contracts, liability and insurance and bonds as they relate to the legal aspects of construction. The Legal, Ethical and Intellectual Property Issues for Engineering Managers course strives to introduce issues that engineer managers may face, be it either legal, ethical, health or safety issues.

In order to apply for admission into the Project Management Certificate program, prospective students must have a Bachelor's degree in either engineering, the sciences or a related field of study.

Students who wish to continue their studies can apply all credits earned from the certificate program toward obtaining the MS in Engineering Management at NJIT.
