Program Overview

The MS in Emergency Management and Business Continuity degree at New Jersey Institute of Technology is ideal for corporate and public sector professionals working in emergency management and or business continuity. Program curriculum aims to help students meet all requirements of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). Additionally, students will learn of the latest research innovations and most current practices in the field. Program curriculum also supports requirements by the National Fire and Protection Association (NFPA), making national guidelines and practices top priority.

Program courses include 12 credit hours of core classes, six credit hours of elective classes and 12 credit hours in classes from the chosen specialization. Students are able to choose specializations in either Information Systems or Management. Core courses offered include, Design of Emergency Management Information Systems, Command and Control Systems, Learning Methods and Training Technologies, and Principles of Emergency Management. Elective courses include, Organizational Behavior and  Management Science. The Information Systems specialization includes courses in Information Retrieval, Multimedia Systems, Information System Principles, and Information Systems Strategy. The Management specialization includes courses in Management Accounting, Corporate Finance, Management Organizational and Technological Change and Information Systems Principles.

In terms of admission requirements, prospective students must have a Bachelor's degree and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8. NJIT's website states that their Admissions Department aims to accept students who are placed in the top half of their graduating class.

Prospective students who plan to apply for financial aid are asked to submit GRE scores to supplement their application. If students do not meet admission requirements, NJIT offers bridge courses that are only available on campus. Students may be able to take equivalent courses at a community college or four-year university.

The MS in Emergency Management and Business Continuity degree is offered completely online, partially online or on NJIT's main campus in Newark, New Jersey.
