Certificate in Business and Computing
The Certificate in Business and Computing at the New Jersey Institute of Technology offers a comprehensive curriculum focused on how to design software systems used by financial firms, Wall Street firms and corporations. Students learn computing skills, networking, security, databases, data mining and algorithms. Additionally, curriculum focuses on accounting, finance, organizational behavior and marketing. Graduates of the Certificate in Business and Computing program go on to have careers as system analysts, database designers, database information systems auditors and business systems managers.
Students must complete 12 credit hours, which are estimated to be completed within one year. Program courses include, Management Accounting, Competing in the Global Market, Data Management Systems Design, Internet and Higher Layer Protocols, Financial and Economic Environment, and Date Mining. The Management Accounting course looks at concepts of managerial accounting and skills needed in strategic cost analysis. The Data Management System Design course introduces the fundamentals of relational database technology. Concurrency control and recovery in databases, as well as methods of physical storage for database information, are emphasized throughout the program. The Competing in Global Markets course prepares students on how to become effective leaders in the global market. Students will learn the influence of economic, political, financial and legal factors in the development of marketing programs.
In order to apply for admission into the Business and Computing program, prospective students must have a bachelor's degree with a grade point average of 2.8 or higher (cumulative). Additionally, students must also have some basic understanding of C and data structures.
All courses for completion of certificate requirements are offered online and on campus. NJIT is located in Newark, New Jersey and is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
