Program Overview

New England Culinary Institute offers students the opportunity to earn an advanced degree in an online format in the Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality and Restaurant Management program. The intimate setting of individual attention combined with modern technology has given both the school and students the necessary tools needed to succeed in the competitive industry.

This program requires students to already hold an Associate’s degree or at least 60 credit hours to transfer into the Culinary program. New England Culinary Institute provides student-centered and career-focused education, expanding on the basic knowledge of culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, and hospitality and restaurant management.

The changing dynamic of what is expected from graduates will be introduced as students learn about critical marketing, financial management, human resource management, sustainable practices and nutrition. These non-kitchen skills are a necessity if a chef is to survive in the business and also to excel in positions of leadership.

The knowledge earned through a Bachelor’s degree in the concentration of Hospitality and Management can be applied when experienced chefs take on the challenge to understand the art of menu development, entrepreneurship or food and beverage journalism. The specialized curriculum will also build the foundation of core business aspects of owning, managing and leading a culinary establishment. These business concepts will ensure sustainability and understanding of resources beyond the kitchen.

Students with aspirations and ideas for a food-based business, or those who wish to open a restaurant can use the beyond basics culinary education to manage a crew, an establishment and investors the hospitality setting.

Graduates of the Bachelor degree program will be able to use the blended coursework of business and culinary arts when seeking positions within a professional atmosphere. Graduates will enter the restaurant and hospitality industry with the skills to practice business etiquette, self-awareness, community relations, and team creation in multiple settings related to the industry.

    The New England Culinary Institute is a private, for-profit institute located in Montpelier, Vermont. Founded in 1980, by Fran Voigt and John Dranow, the curriculum focuses on a hands-on approach “grounded in culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, and hospitality and restaurant management."

    At NECI, students can complete a bachelor’s degree program online on the subjects of culinary arts, hospitality, and restaurant management. For entrance into the online bachelor’s degree programs, students must hold an associate’s degree or other qualifying post-secondary credits and submit a resume documenting prior experience in the food service/hospitality industry.
