Program Details

Missouri State University offers an online Master of Science in Education with a specialization in Literacy. Students will learn about teaching reading, while also preparing to receive the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Special Reading Teacher Certification for grades K-12.


  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework
  • A letter of intent, which includes the candidate’s teaching and professional goals, future plans, background and teaching experience
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Appropriate teacher certificate or eligibility for certification by a state or national board
  • A minimum GPA of 3.00 for courses taken in undergraduate area of study. Candidates who do not meet the GPA requirement must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
