Educational Technology in the Classroom
The Educational Technology in the Classroom certificate at Minnesota State University-Mankato is intended for students wishing to develop an expertise in using technology within the classroom wishing to earn a full Master’s degree. The program is aimed at current teachers who want to increase classroom performance. Students can gain leadership skills in this specific area and thus earn their certificate by taking three courses from the Educational Studies: K-12 and Secondary department. This program is fully online and is designed for busy individuals to complete on their own time at their own pace while maintaining a full-time job.
The courses are research-based and standards-aligned, and they are designed to respond to the current needs within the educational system. There are three courses involved in the certificate. Differentiation Using Technology gives students a professional and practical basis to combine technology with instruction in the classroom. Student will use web-based software as they explore student’s needs and various element of differentiated instruction as it relates to technology use. The course Using Technology in the Classroom shows various ways to use technology in the classroom with current software applications and hybrids. Finally, in Introduction to Technology, students will look at various elements within web-based technology and their use in education.
A certificate usually takes a year to complete as classes are not always offered each semester. Students can also take single classes in order to increase their skills in a certain area. Once a certificate is earned, students may decide to continue onto a Master’s degree in Teaching and Learning, which requires eight additional courses as well as a final paper, project, or thesis.
