Students will gain a basic knowledge of business processes, functions, and understanding of business organizations in the current global economy. Classes emphasize contemporary business practices and include coursework on various business concepts such as economics, management, accounting, business law, technology, and marketing. Students will build skills in the areas by studying computer applications, communication, team building, and decision making. These skills will prepare students for a lifetime of sound business development and education. Besides being prepared to transfer, students can gain entry-level employment opportunities in any number of sectors, including government agencies, financial institutions, and large-to-small business or industry.
This program requires 60 credit hours and includes 30 credit hours in general education from six of the ten goal areas of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum. General education courses consist of a wide range of academic areas such as mathematics, various sciences, communications, and humanities; this will provide the student with a broad and globally-based knowledge and skill-set. Upon completion, students will have the potential to be able to function in a diverse and global business economy, use critical thinking to analyze and solve problems, demonstrate interpersonal and professional skills, and be effective business communicators.
Students may be required to take developmental courses in reading, math, and writing in order to prepare them for education on a college level; whether these classes are required is determined by the student’s score on the Accuplacer assessment. Students who wish to continue their education in a related field at a baccalaureate institution are advised to consult a counselor to ensure the transferability of the courses to the intended college or university.
