Program Overview

Individuals who are looking for an online option to begin their career in accounting may wish to consider Milwaukee Area Technical College’s online Associate of Science Degree in Accounting program.  This two-year program consists of 69 total credit hours of financial and general education courses. The curriculum is designed to meet the first two years of credit requirements needed for most four-year baccalaureate programs in business or accounting. Students will be able to watch video lectures, explore MATC’s diverse online research tools, and communicate with peers all from the comfort of their personal computer. Students who already know which university or college they plan to transfer into are advised to speak with one of MATC’s many academic advisors before choosing electives.

The education earned in this program will prepare students for jobs such as Accounting Assistant, Auditing Clerk, Banking Assistant, and other entry-level financial positions. The online format makes this an ideal option for students who are currently working and wish to advance into more complex financial roles or management positions.

Individuals will develop the ability to create and manage complex budgets for businesses both small and large.  Training in cost/risk assessment will give students the skills to construct consulting reports to improve business profit margins.  Graduates should have a firm understanding of financial business law, as well as a deep knowledge of the U.S tax system. Other accounting subjects include payroll, cost accounting, and governments & nonprofit budgeting.
