Program Overview

The Professional Studies program helps students prepare for management positions in healthcare. It’s among University College programs targeting distance learning and nontraditional students. The major consists of foundation courses in communications, statistics, supervision, organizational systems, organizational relations, and international context. The Professional Studies - Healthcare Administration concentration focuses on classes in healthcare research, nursing leadership management, trends and issues in nursing healthcare, community health nursing, and international health. The Healthcare Administration concentration offers training that allows graduates to work in settings such as hospital and health systems management, medical groups, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, care management organizations, health IT firms, government/policy organizations, health insurers, consulting firms, and corporate benefits programs. Some possible positions for Students who earn this degree are trained to hold professional positions such as: Convalescent hospital administrator; Food and Drug Administrator manager; Government administrator; Health information manager; Hospital administrator; Insurance company representative; Medical practice office manager; Medical services manager; Nursing home administrator; Pharmaceutical company manager; Public charity director; Public health manager; and Residential care facility administrator. Up to 60 hours of college credit may also be granted for college level learning obtained through work, seminars, training programs, military education programs, and certification programs.

    School Overview

    Located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State University began as Middle Tennessee State Normal School in 1911 as a training school for teachers.

    MTSU offers certificates, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctorate degrees. The school is made of eight undergraduate colleges and a College of Graduate Studies. The Adult Degree Completion program is available for returning students with prior obligations to earn credit and complete their degree. For the non-traditional student requiring greater flexibility, MTSU supports undergraduate and graduate degrees completely online, as well as hybrid degrees.
