For students who are interested in entering the versatile field of government and politics, Middle Georgia State College’s Associate of Science in Political Science course of study may be an ideal option to pursue. This program is intended for students who are interested in being a politician at the local, state, or national level, working in a public administration, or serving as a government employee. Other ideal students include those who aspire to be a more involved and effective member of society, and for those students who wish to learn more about political structures as well as legal and ethical policies. This 62-credit program focuses on coursework related to government, public administration, politics, and history. Through these courses, students should gain a better understanding of the democratic policies, governing institutions, and political processes that are essential to the running of our nation every single day.
While many students may choose to pursue advanced studies in political science after completing the associate’s level curriculum, an associate’s degree may be very useful in launching a student’s career in public service or the legal system. For those students who do pursue upper-level degrees at the baccalaureate and graduate level, positions teaching at the university level, work as lawyers, government officials, lobbyists, and journalists may be available. For those wishing to immediately enter the workforce after the A.A. in Political Science is completed, past graduates have gone on to serve as legal assistants, political consultants, campaign managers, and political fundraisers.
