Mid-Atlantic Christian University traces its founding to the opening of Roanoke Bible College in 1948, as a means to educate much-needed leaders for the Churches of Christ in Eastern North Carolina. Led by evangelist George W. BonDurant and his wife, Sarah Presley, the institution gained accreditation by 1979. In 2009, the Board of Trustees chose to rename the school Mid-Atlantic Christian University. Today Mid-Atlantic Christian University is a private not-for-profit, four-year Christian institution of higher education, located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Mid-Atlantic Christian University upholds a mission to “impact the world by transforming ordinary people into extraordinary Christian leaders.”
Mid-Atlantic Christian University awards associate’s and bachelor’s degrees, in addition to offering certificate programs. Realizing that some students follow a more non-traditional route, Mid-Atlantic Christian University supports academic programs targeting the needs of working adult students.
