Associate in Science in Marketing Management / Marketing
Miami Dade College offers an Associate of Science degree in Marketing for students who want to work in advertising or learn about the principles of marketing as they relate to the creation and release of products and services in a way that attracts attention and generates business. Marketing is one of the more nuanced fields of business, requiring an abundance of general knowledge in history, culture, psychology, sociology, and other factors that relate to how a business can communicate with its customers. As part of marketing, students will learn about how product and business marketing is broken into a number of steps or categories and how to utilize knowledge of markets, brand advertising, product development, research, and focused strategies.
Students will learn about the fundamentals of marketing as well as the principles of business operation and management. Those classes include basic business statistics, financial accounting, principles of accounting, microcomputers in accounting, business law, legal environment, principles of microeconomics, principles of business, principles of management, principles of marketing, business writing, export and import marketing, fundamentals of selling, principles of retailing, introduction to customer service, principles of advertising and copywriting, advertising layout and production, and public relations.
Through the program, students will develop professional qualifications which will be the basis of careers in business and marketing. These qualifications include but are not limited to: the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles of marketing, to demonstrate proficiency in fundamental business principles and practices that allow for firms to operate in domestic and global markets, to demonstrate critical-thinking and analysis skills to develop marketing solutions, to analyze ethical issues that impact business decisions from economic, political, legal, and social perspectives, and to evaluate the application of technology as a strategy for competitive advantage in business.
