Associate in Science - Financial Services - Financial Management
Miami Dade College offers an Associate of Science degree in Finance for students who are interested in learning about the social and mathematical sciences relating to the field of finance and how to act as a personal or business financial planner. Students will learn to understand basic and fundamental business operations as well as basic features of the business of finance. Through development of basic financial studies and core curriculum, students will prepare themselves for further studies and employment opportunities.
Students will focus on major business concepts as well as specialized topics in lending and finance and how they relate to business operations and specialized businesses. Those classes include managerial accounting, principles of banking, principles of microeconomics, principles of finance, investments in stocks and bonds, personal finance, principles of business, principles of management, principles of marketing, financial statement analysis, microcomputers in accounting, international banking, introduction to commercial lending, bank cards, law and banking, bank accounting, analyzing financial statement, applied financial statement analysis, residential mortgage lending, diversity awareness and customer service, affordable housing and community, and fair housing and fair lending.
In this program, students will study to understand basic business operations and the principles of an ongoing firm. Through graduation, the individuals will have demonstrated the professional qualifications necessary for entry-level positions in careers in finance. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental business principles and practices that enable firms to operate in both domestic and global environments, to employ critical-thinking and analysis skills to solve business problems in a real-world context, to analyze ethical issues that impact business decisions from economic, political, legal, and social perspectives, and to evaluate the application of technology as a strategy for competitive advantage in business.
