Program Details

Miami Dade College offers an Associate of Arts degree as a Pre-Bachelor of Arts for students who are interested in developing their general education knowledge required for an undergraduate degree, but are not interested in specializing in a certain field. This program will allow students to pick their elective courses and develop a solid academic foundation for those who are not ready to choose a topic for study. However, by completing this study, students will be prepared for the challenges ahead in bachelor studies and other undergraduate programs and can transfer their credits to do so.

Students will take part in a general studies curriculum designed to offer them the class credits they need to apply for a Bachelor's degree in nearly any field. These classes include English composition, fundamentals of speech communication, art appreciation, art history, humanities, critical thinking and ethics, introduction to cultural anthropology, introduction to psychology, the individual in society, introduction to sociology, world history from 1798, the social environment, biology and environment, human sexuality, human anatomy and physiology, college algebra, pre-calculus, trigonometry, calculus, statistical methods, college chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and laboratory sciences.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the skills and qualifications necessary to advance in educational studies. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they learned in the program into their development as a functional and affective professional in their field. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to demonstrate acquired skills and knowledge in the general education areas that are the foundations for life skills and further education, to demonstrate gained knowledge of government and philosophical foundations, and to demonstrate a developed foundation for further study in a chosen area.
