Management Information Systems (MMIS)
Metropolitan State University offers a Master's degree in Management Information Systems for managers and professionals in information systems who want to develop their career opportunities and specialized knowledge by studying advanced topics in technology relating to business performance. Students will learn the approaches to integrating business-wide information systems to support business strategy and decision making, and in addition, will learn to examine and apply techniques for inference, analysis, estimation, and discovery in large data sets, databases, as well as data acquisition, storage, data mining, text mining, and data retrieval and analysis. The program will combine business and technology strategies in order to give managers the skills necessary to lead information technology and information systems teams for process design, integration, and implementation applications.
The program curriculum is a combination of courses relating to business management and information systems management. Those classes include statistics, management information systems, database and client and server systems, management of advanced application design, management of distributed computing, systems design and decision support, problem formulation, data presentation, and research methods, process analysis and design, project management, and marketing management.
Graduates of the program will be prepared to manage information systems and demonstrate the qualities of trained professionals in management. Qualifications include but are not limited to, the ability to design appropriate software system structures in response to application needs, organizational environment, and technical ecology, to make appropriate design choices based on system, service, and business process needs, to analyze social, legal, ethical, and professional issues in business and technical decision making, to employ best communication practices with business partners, users, customers, and third-party providers, to use sound evaluation practices to select appropriately among competing technologies and technical approaches, and to manage business processes through analysis, design, and optimization in response to organizational needs.
