The Medical Records Technician (MRTSD) program at Metropolitan Community College awards the Specialist Diploma upon graduation. Students should strengthen the knowledge and expertise that is needed for careers within medical records departments. Courses will provide students fundamental knowledge in the basic computer and career skills that will be useful as a medical record technician. Students may learn to organize, maintain and evaluate medical records to ensure they are both complete and accurate.
Students will need to complete a total of 31.5 credits in order to graduate from the program. To fulfill the credits, the program requires students to complete seven courses. Six of the courses are required while the seventh may be chosen from a list of two electives. Some of the required courses are Business Writing, Introduction to Electronic Health Records, Electronic Health Records (EHR) Lab Experience, and Healthcare Applications I. The two elective choices are Microsoft Word I and Database Fundamentals.
