Program Overview

The Business Transfer Associate in Arts Degree program may be completed entirely online.  This degree is designed for students that are interested in transferring to a four-year institution. However, the program also functions as educational program that strengthens the student’s knowledge and expertise required for entry-level positions within the field of business.  The schools that accept this degree from MCC are Bellevue University, Midland University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Northwest Missouri State, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Consisting of 99.5 credit hours in length, the credits are divided into 56 general education and 43.5 major requirement credits. In order to graduate, MCC requires all students to complete their required credits four years after enrollment in the program of study.

Designed to educate the whole person and provide the fundamentals within a broad range of subjects are the goals of the general education courses. Courses may provide the students enriched perspectives for real world application. The general education credits are further divided into 13.5 communication, 9 social science, 5 quantitative/numeracy skills, 6 natural science, 9 humanities, 4.5 cultural diversity, and 9 other credits. Students may need to complete additional prerequisites for the program.

Major requirement courses have been developed to strengthen the student’s career skills and provide them with the required knowledge for a smooth transfer to another institution of higher learning. MCC encourages students to combine their general education and major requirement courses each quarter so they may graduate on time. The remaining major credits are obtained from a list of nine required courses and the choice of a 4.5 credit elective. Some of the major courses are Accounting III, Business Law I, Principles of Management, Microeconomics, and Introduction to Business.

Within the major’s courses, students will receive an education within a variety of subjects. Course topics include management accounting, manufacturing operations, business to business marketing concepts, law of contracts and economic growth theory. Students should also gain skills in developing consumer business relations, analyzing social implications of marketing forms, and evaluation of fiscal policy.
