Program Overview

Metropolitan Community College offers students a Bookkeeping (BKPCE) program that awards the Certificate of Achievement Degree. The program’s curriculum focuses on providing an education that covers a broad range of topics and a career preparation with the instruction of bookkeeping methods. Upon graduation, students may find bookkeeping careers within many business, industry and government organizations. Students that complete the Bookkeeping Certificate of Achievement may continue their education by enrolling in the General Studies degree program.

The program is delivered through a hybrid format of both traditional and online courses. To be eligible for graduation, students must complete 22.5 general education, 31-32 major requirements for a total of 53.5-54 credit hours.

The general education courses within the program should provide students with a broad foundational education and the essential career skills for future occupations. In addition, the general education courses offered at MCC provide students the principles of becoming a productive individual, contributing team member and a lifelong learning student. Students will need to complete 4.5 communication, 4.5 social sciences, 4.5 quantitative/numeracy skills, and 9 other credits.

The major requirement courses focus entirely on the bookkeeping field. Students may gain specific knowledge and the expertise required for many bookkeeping careers. Students will fulfill the credits through a list of 11 required courses. Some of the courses are Accounting with QuickBooks, Principles of Supervision, Accounting I, and Payroll Accounting. Students interested in a future business degree/certificate are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor to plan an appropriate course of study.
