The Associate in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts: Social Science Concentration at Mercer County Community College offers a strong foundation of Liberal Arts coursework needed to pursue a four year degree. Many students who obtain their Associates degree enter into a four year university with junior standing. Many universities in New Jersey offer full transfer of credits earned at MCCC. Universities such as Rutgers University, Rider University, The College of New Jersey, Montclair State University, Thomas Edison State College, and New Jersey Institute of Technology, all offer transfer programs from MCCC. The Social Sciences concentration specifically offers courses in sociology, political science, education, criminology and psychology.
Students will learn and understand key concepts and vocabulary in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Additionally, upon graduation, students of the Associate in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts will have been able to further their verbal and writing skills as well as be able to utilize research materials and approaches effectively.
Many students continue their educational endeavors by pursuing a Bachelor's degree in fields as history, humanities, journalism, foreign languages, pre-law and education. Specific to the Social Sciences concentration, students go on to pursue degrees in sociology, psychology, social work, and political science/government.
Program courses for the Associate in Arts degree in Liberal Arts: Social Science include, English Composition, Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Historical Perspective, English Composition II, Speech: Human Communication, Public Speaking, Concepts of Health and Fitness, Introduction to Psychology, Literature, Historical Perspective, Computer Concepts with Applications as well as many elective courses. In total, students will complete 62-65 credit hours of coursework in order to meet graduation requirements.
Mercer County Community College is a public co-educational community college located in Mercer County, California.
