Mayville State University
B.S.Ed. In Early Childhood Education
The Mayville State University offers a B.S. Ed. in Early Childhood Education. This program gives students the eligibility to apply for the birth to third grade licensure, which will allow students who complete the program to teach children from birth to age eight. Students enrolled in this program will receive a high quality education that will provide them with the knowledge and skills to be effective teachers. This program is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Common career opportunities include working in preschools, kindergarten, and primary grade classrooms. Employment in other agencies is also possible with this degree, as well as working with disabled children.
Classes can be completed online or other arrangements may be made. Individuals who already have a B.A. degree in early childhood education or B.S. Ed. degree in elementary education will easily transfer a large amount of their work and credits into the B.S. Ed in Early Childhood Education program.
Mayville State University prides itself on being the right size for students to receive personal attention from professors and faculty. Small, personalized class settings and advanced technology provided by the college are variables related to success of students within the B.S. in Early Childhood Education program. Students in this program are given opportunities to develop leadership skills, join sports teams, and a large variety of other activities and clubs.
Students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education B.S. program are required to have Mayville State University general education requirements and institutional requirements for fitness/wellness and for the IT Certificate. Students will also need to successfully complete the PRAXIS I, PRAXIS II, and elementary educational requirements for birth to age eight.
General education course topics include communications, English, math, and additional general education credit hours. Core requirements include topics such as special needs, education, education technology, student teaching, children’s literature, math, science, social studies, language arts, art/music, and many other subjects related to early childhood education.
Students are strongly advised to complete most of their general education requirements before enrolling in the program. General education classes are offered online and need to be completed before graduation. Students who want to enroll in this program must come to the Mayville State University campus for two consecutive summers to complete block courses that consist of internships designed for teaching pre-K, kindergarten, and primary grades. Before students can enroll into these block courses they must apply for acceptance into the teacher education program.
