Mayville State University offers a Bachelor of University Studies (B.U.S.)  degree that is focuses no particular area of study. This degree is well suited for students who want to determine the content of their degree rather than a specific major. Students are able to customize their degree in order to lead them to specific educational goals that are not in one particular department. T

he B.U.S. degree is also well suited for students who previously were enrolled in a college or university but did not finish. Any credits completed at a regionally accredited college can easily be integrated into the program and count towards their B.U.S. degree.

In order to accommodate for different preferences of students, many online classes are available through Mayville State. This allows students to have a flexible experience while working towards their degree.

Mayville State University prides itself on being the right size for students to receive personal attention from professors and faculty. Small, personalized class settings and advanced technology provided by the college are variables related to success of students within the B.U.S. program. Students in this program are given opportunities to develop leadership skills, join sports teams, and participate in a variety of other activities and clubs.

Students enrolled in the B.U.S. program are required to complete a total of 120 credit hours. General education courses require 36 semester hours to complete this program. Students must also complete an optional minor, Instructional Technology Certificate courses, and Concepts of Fitness & Wellness/First Aid & CPR. Additional elective courses are also required in order to satisfy the 120 program credit hour requirement.

Topics that students may explore in this program include business, computer information science, education, psychology, library media, health, liberal arts, mathematics, and science. These are only a few of many options available for students who are enrolled in this degree program. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for general education courses in order to complete the program. Other program requirements that must be completed with Mayville State University include 30 semester hours in residency, nine semester hours of upper division core requirements, and six semester hours of optional minor requirements.

    School Overview

    Mayville State University is a four-year public school located in Mayville, North Dakota. MSU was established through the state constitution in 1889 and is one of North Dakota’s original colleges. The Mayville Normal School became a "teachers college" in 1925 when it began providing general education and offering four-year degrees. The institution’s present name, Mayville State University, was approved by the legislature in 1987.

    Mayville State University offers associate’s and bachelor’s degrees. MSU uses small class sizes, which make it easier for students to participate and be heard. Distance learning courses combine the flexibility of online classes with the student-focused instruction of its on-campus programs. Almost fifteen online programs are available at MSU.
