Program Overview

Manchester Community College (MCC) offers a completely online program for those who wish to earn their Associates degree in Accounting. This degree provides a base for economics, law, management, finance, and computer technology. The mission of MCC is to prepare students to transfer to a four-year institution with a solid base knowledge of accounting and business studies, or entry-level employment in an accounting position.

To gain this foundation knowledge, students will, in the first year, complete courses such as accounting and financial reporting, management, college composition, elementary algebra and macroeconomics. The second year will consist of more advanced classes such as business law, cost accounting II, intermediate accounting I, II, and III, and software systems applications. The credit hours for years one and two will total to 69.

This degree and career deals heavily with numbers and finances, so if potential students don’t enjoy working with either, then this career may not be the right fit. Those who do possess this degree should consider one of the three areas that practices accounting: bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing. Jobs can also be found in public accounting, private industry, government, non-profit organizations and international areas.

Students who graduate with this degree will know how to use at least one accounting software program and know how to complete an individual tax return. They will also be able to organize details of the job, such as preparing and making adjustments to financial statements, oral and written communication, relevant mathematical skills and analytical thinking.

MCC also has a partnership with Robert Half International to help accounting students find temporary and permanent assignments in related career fields. Robert Half International is a placement agency for accounting professionals.

    School Overview

Manchester Community College is a two-year public school that is located in Manchester, New Hampshire. The school was founded in 1945 to provide technical training for returning veterans of World War II. After several names and three locations, Manchester Community College has become the second largest of the seven colleges within the Community College System of New Hampshire.

Manchester Community College offers certificates and associate’s degrees. MCC's courses transfer to four-year colleges and universities in NH and across the U.S., so students often earn their associate’s degree from MCC and move on to a four-year college to earn their bachelor’s degree. As long as students have basic computer skills and Internet connection, they are able to enroll in any of the dozens of online courses available at MCC.
