Program Overview

The School of Business and Applied Arts at Madison Area Technical College has designed the Project Management Certificate program for prospective students interested in an education of project management. Students will learn how to plan and reach project goals, lead project groups, and ensure quality of project work. The Project Management Certificate program is also for those who would like to pursue professional and career growth.


The Project Management Certificate program expertise may be applied to a variety of programs at Madison Area Technical College such as the Administrative Assistant Associate Degree and the Meeting and Event Management Associate Degree. The certificate degree program as been constructed for students who work full-time and all program coursework may be completed alongside other Madison Area Technical College programs.


Courses will be offered on the Truax Campus and will not be offered online. Some courses offered throughout the certificate program include: Excel Intermediate, MS project, Customer Contact Skills, Project Management and the Fundamentals of Meeting Management.  All students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and earn a grade of “C” or higher in all program courses. 

Upon completion of the certificate program students, on average, earn $13-$16 per hour based on previous work experience and skill set. Students may find potential careers as a Project Assistant, Office Assistant, Customer Service Representative, Information Assistant and Assistant Meeting Planner.  Students with further supplemental education and work experience may find potential careers such as Administrative Assistant, Project Director, Office Administrator, and Executive Assistant.

    School Overview

    Madison Area Technical College is a four-year public college located in Madison, Wisconsin. The school has grown tremendously from its foundation in 1912 and is now one of the largest 16 schools in the Wisconsin Technical College System. MATC has developed formal agreements with a number of four-year colleges and universities, which enable students to transfer the credits earned in an associate degree program to a specific institution.

    Students can choose from associate’s degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates. Accelerated programs are available if students are interested in reducing time of completion.
