Program Overview

The Center of Business and Applied Arts offers a Meeting and Event Management Degree program for prospective Madison College students. The goal of the program is to train and educate students to undertake leadership roles in planning conventions, meetings and conferences.  Program students will learn to negotiate, make informed decisions, solve work related problems, and communicate clearly and effectively. Contract law, facility education and financial budget management are also main educational focuses of the program. 

The Meeting and Event Management program was developed by well trained and experienced meeting planners ensuring students receive the education needed to be successful in the real world.  The program developers outlined the fundamental education needed to be a qualified planner. Students will learn skills such as recognizing strategies to plan special events, review building contracts, create a sustainability plan, create risk management strategies, coordinating event sites and determining the practicality and of an event. 

All instructors within the Meeting and Event Management program are designated Certified Meeting Professionals. The experienced and award winning instructors at Madison College ensure students have access to real life education and application.  Small class sizes within the program allow students to have increased one-on-one time with the instructor to get the most out of the program. 

Some courses offered throughout the two-year program include Registration and Housing Logistics, Fundamentals of Meeting Management, Event Technology Delivery, Special Event Management, and Psych of Human Relations. Courses are offered at the Truax campus or completely online. All students must earn a “C” or higher in all course classes to graduate from the program.

Upon graduation students will have developed skills such as the ability to create a budget for meetings, assess appropriate seating styles for meetings, proficiency in negotiation, recognize efficient ways to select suitable meeting supplies, and recognize important specifications needed for facilities. 

Graduates of the Meeting and Event Management Degree program may find possible careers in professional organizations, hotels, various corporations, venues and resorts. Program graduates average salary for 2011 was $2,377/month.

    School Overview

    Madison Area Technical College is a four-year public college located in Madison, Wisconsin. The school has grown tremendously from its foundation in 1912 and is now one of the largest 16 schools in the Wisconsin Technical College System. MATC has developed formal agreements with a number of four-year colleges and universities, which enable students to transfer the credits earned in an associate degree program to a specific institution.

    Students can choose from associate’s degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates. Accelerated programs are available if students are interested in reducing time of completion.
