Program Overview

The School of Business and Applied Arts at Madison Area Technical College offers a Marketing program providing students with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. The Marketing program will give students the education and experience needed to solve problems within the field of marketing. Students will be educated and prepared to help businesses expand and be successful.

The Marketing program has been designed by the School of Business and Applied Arts to fit a busy student’s schedule. Students may obtain their Marketing Associate Degree multiple ways. There are three class formats and two areas of educational emphasis students may choose from. The “Traditional” class format will offer regular classes that will be held on campus. Students may choose traditional classes for either a 16-week course schedule or a shorter 8-week course schedule. The “Hybrid” class format allows students to have a blend of both traditional classes and online classes. The “Online” format allows students to take the required program courses completely online.  The Marketing program also offers an accelerated or “Fastrack” format allowing students to take a class once a week and earn the degree in about two years. Along with the choice of program format, students may also choose educational emphasis in one of two areas such as advertising or sales. 

Madison College and the School of Business and Applied Arts also provide students with the option to earn six short-term certificates. These certificates provide more specific instruction in other areas within the marketing field.  Sales Academy, Social Media, Event Marketing, Real Estate, Small Business Entrepreneurship, and Midwest Technical Design Alliance certificates can all be obtained alongside the Madison College Marketing Associate Degree. 

Some courses that will be offered during the Marketing program are Marketing and Selling Principles, Marketing Research, Leadership Strategies in Marketing, Marketing Management, and International Marketing. All students are required to earn a grade of “C” or higher in order to graduate from the program. Classes will be offered at the Truax and Fort Atkinon campuses.  

Graduates will be proficient in skills such as recognizing the important role marketing has within all organizations, will be able to utilize marketing concepts to contribute to an organization’s success, assist in marketing plans, and communicate and work efficiently within the business environment to accomplish goals or solve problems.

Upon completion of the Marketing program graduates may enter possible careers such as Advertising Coordinator, Customer Service Manager, Marketing Assistant, Promotion Coordinator and Market Research Assistant. Graduates may continue their education and work experience to acquire jobs such as Public Relations Director, Marketing Instructor, Marketing Research Analyst, Senior Executive, and Internet Marketing Manager.

    School Overview

    Madison Area Technical College is a four-year public college located in Madison, Wisconsin. The school has grown tremendously from its foundation in 1912 and is now one of the largest 16 schools in the Wisconsin Technical College System. MATC has developed formal agreements with a number of four-year colleges and universities, which enable students to transfer the credits earned in an associate degree program to a specific institution.

    Students can choose from associate’s degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates. Accelerated programs are available if students are interested in reducing time of completion.
